Since Glendronach were closed between 1996-2001 does that mean for example that the 18y Allardice contains whisky that is 20+ years of age. And that soon or already will the 21y Parliament contain whisky that that will be older than 21 year old?
You are correct. Until the last couple of years, the 12 year old was in the same situation. I guess it has worked out well for the distillery, since they had the older stocks available and were trying to re-establish the brand's core single malt range.
@Carlton So that is why they stopped the 15 year old? As the 15 year old were getting older than the 18 year old?
@bedlamborn Yeah, Glendronach was simply running out of stock, although I would say it's mostly due to its popularity; the 15 has always had a bunch of love from the community. There is a store near where I live that has about two 15 yr olds left and I'm definitely going to buy them up before the end of the year. I think they are going to bring back the 15 after a couple of years, but I can't find the source I heard this from.
In the mean time, if you havent yet read this article, it should clear things up a little...

@bedlamborn
It is refreshing in these days of NAS whisky to actually get more for your money. I hope Brown-Forman proves to be a good custodian for the distillery - time will tell I guess.
@kroman
Thanks for the link to that article. Very intersting information. I better store up on the 18 year old now and soon the 21 year old.
@Carlton
I hope that Glendronach doesn't go Ardbeg with almost everything being NAS. I hope they have bought it as an long term investment.
@bedlamborn I don't see them doing that any time soon. They even have an 8 yr old with the number "8" proudly on the bottle label. The only NAS bottle they make is their peated expression.
@kroman
It is funny that the 8-year old costs more than the 12 year old in Sweden. Pricing schemes are so funny. I should start a new topic discussing strange pricing schemes in Sweden.
I have never understood the pricing on the Lagavulin 12 and 16 either. I know that the 12 is a once-a-year release at a higher abv, but I would have a hard time paying more for the 12 vs. the 16.
@Carlton
I usually buy the distillers edition instead of the 12y Lagavulin. With alcohol taxes in Sweden a high abv gets expensive.
But then the 8yo Lagavulin costs as much as the 16Yo
